DR. J.S. WALSH, K.C.*The death has occurred at Massinass, Creeslough, of Dr. P. S. Walsh, K.C., formerly President of the District Court of Cyprus, and Chief Justice of the Seychelles. Dr. Walsh, who was formerly a professor on the staff of St. Columb's College, Derry, was a prominent member of the Irish bar, and was senior counsel in the famous appeal brought by Niall MacGiolla Bhrighde, of Feymore, Creeslough, against a fine imposed at Dunfanaghy for having his name on his cart in Irish. (Mac Giolla Bhrighde himself died a few months ago.) In the appeal P. H. Pearse was Dr. Walsh's junior. The appeal was lost. During the 1914-18 Great War Mr. Walsh acted on Government Tribunals, and at the close of the war sat as Official Referee on Pensions Boards. A noted scholar, the late Dr. Walsh was a gifted linguist, and could speak fluently in French, German, Italian and Spanish, as well as Irish.
